The Environmental Club joined the Energy Action Team and learned about conserving energy, saving water, and taking care of our planet! Members were sent home with energy action kits (filled with energy-saving items like LED light bulbs, faucet aerators, weather stripping, and other useful things) so they can continue making a positive impact at home.
Pictured are 5 members from Environmental Club. A total of 16 students are ready to make energy-conserving changes at home!

Wishing all of our OPS families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your break and we will see you back in school on Monday, November 27th!
After learning about the pilgrims and their voyage to Plymouth, Ms. Pearson's fifth graders teamed up with Mrs. Pescetto’s first grade class to design and build their own Mayflower. The goal was to use tin foil, an egg carton, or juice box with other supplies to create a ship that would float. Every boat successfully floated!
Congratulations to the winners of the third through fifth grade Elk's Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest: (8-9 age group - Bruno G. and Grace K.) (10-11 age group - Aiden Z. and Stella H.)! The winners will move on to the next competition at IVCC on December 10th. Congrats and good luck!
Ms. Coble's first grade students read about and discussed the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons with the Story "Balloons over Broadway" and then created Stem parade balloons. This afternoon they had a mini parade throughout Lincoln School visiting some of the classrooms.
The 7th and 8th grade boys' basketball teams took on Marquette last night (7th 41-22) (8th 17-35). They play next at the LP Junior High Shootout this Saturday, November 18th. On November 15th, students submitted their final projects for the annual Civics and History Fair at Washington School.
8th grade students chose a historical topic to research for history fair, and 7th grade students chose a societal problem that has a local organization providing efforts to help out for their civics projects.
Students spent weeks researching their topics in Mrs. Myer's history class. They practiced the skills of finding quality primary and secondary sources, identifying evidence within those sources, and paraphrasing and quoting the information they learned. Students created a bibliography listing their sources and wrote a paper in their ELA classes with Mrs. Zimmer, Ms. Eustice, and Ms. Nelson.
7th grade students conducted an interview with someone from their organization, which was a very rewarding experience for many of our students. They also created persuasive posters to showcase on their board in Mr. Sienza's computer class.
8th graders showcase a variety of skills on their board that they have worked on during their time in junior high. They provide artifacts in the front of their board, create a timeline, use a map to show the location of their topic, and tell the story of their topic through historical pictures and captions.
Great job to all!
